Good to know

  • Russian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, and one name can be written in Latin letters in several ways, such as Aleksandr or Alexander. Send the spelling from your passport.
  • Russian names have three parts: a given name, a patronymic formed from the father's name, and a family name, as in Ivan Petrovich Smirnov. All three matter when officials compare documents.
  • Russian appears on official documents in several countries, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Tell us where your document was issued, because the names of offices and forms differ.
  • Universities in Russia and Central Asia set their own rules for translated documents, and they can change each admission season. Ask the admissions office what it accepts before you order.

Requirements change. Confirm what the reader needs with the authority before you send your document.

Questions and answers

Can you translate my school certificates into Russian for university admission?

Yes. Matriculation and intermediate certificates, transcripts and degrees are common requests. Ask the university what else it needs, because some have rules about where and how a translation is prepared.

How will my name be written in Russian?

Your name is written in Cyrillic to match how it sounds. If you already have a Russian spelling, for example on a visa or an earlier document, send it to us so the translation uses the same one. Names of parents and other people in the document are transcribed the same way, so each name looks the same wherever it appears.

Can you translate a birth certificate into Russian?

Yes. Birth certificates are often needed for study visas and residence. Send the full certificate, and give us the Russian spellings of any names you already use. If the certificate has an older handwritten entry beside a newer computerised one, send both, so the translation shows every detail.

Can I visit your office to discuss a Russian translation?

Yes. Walk in to our office in Aabpara Market during office hours, or book a visit. Bring the documents and the university's instructions, and we will go through them with you. You can also send the documents on WhatsApp first, so we can give you a quote before your visit.
