Urdu to English translation in Islamabad

Most Pakistani records are issued in Urdu or in a mix of Urdu and English. When a visa officer, a university abroad or a foreign court needs to read them, they usually ask for an English translation. Bring your document to our office in Aabpara Market, or send a clear copy online, and we will tell you what the translation involves.

Documents we translate for Urdu

Urdu to English requests usually start with family and identity records, then move to court and property papers once an application or a case is under way.

Good to know

  • Urdu is written from right to left in the Nastaliq style of the Arabic script. One name can be spelt in English in more than one way, such as Muhammad or Mohammad, so send us the spelling used in your passport.
  • Many Pakistani forms, such as NADRA records and court papers, mix printed English headings with typed or handwritten Urdu entries. Tell us who will read the translation, so we know what they expect to see.
  • Handwritten entries, stamps and signatures on older Urdu documents can be hard to read in a phone photo. A clear scan of every page, including the back, helps us read each word correctly.
  • Before you send anything, collect the English spellings of every name in the document: yours, your parents' and any witnesses'. Officials compare them with passports first.

Requirements change. Confirm what the reader needs with the authority before you send your document.

Questions and answers

Can you translate a handwritten Urdu document into English?

Yes, if the writing can be read. Handwritten entries are common on older birth, marriage and property records. Send a sharp scan or bring the original to our office, and we will tell you whether any part is unclear before we start, so you can check it with the issuing office.

My NADRA record already has some English. Does it still need translating?

Often it does, because the Urdu entries carry details the English headings do not. Who will read it decides how much needs translating. Tell us where the document is going and show us every page, and we will explain what the translation will cover before you decide.

How will my name be spelt in the English translation?

We use the spelling you give us, normally the one in your passport. Urdu names can be written in English in many ways, and a different spelling on each document can cause questions. If family members spell the same surname differently, tell us which spelling each person uses.

Can I collect the English translation from your office?

Yes. You can collect it from our office in Aabpara Market, have it sent by courier, or receive a PDF by email. Choose the option that suits you when you ask for a quote, and tell us if the reader asks for a paper copy, a PDF, or both.
